Facts vs Feelings
For those that I’ve worked with previously, they will know my view on Facts vs Feelings. Clearly both are very important in the workplace, but I’ve seen some huge decisions over the years with huge sums of money risked on an individual’s ‘Feeling’. I would often revert to comment “Can we looks at facts first?”.
I’ve seen so many successful managers who act on feeling which can work if you have vast experience in a particular role but can often have serious consequences if you get it wrong. There is a simple model for anyone new into a position could use from Kolb’s learning styles. FEEL – OBSERVE/WATCH – THINK – DO. It seems simple, and it is. However, I’ve seen so many cases over the years where someone has a FEELING then reacts and attempts to do something about it without observing to understand the facts before making a decision.
