UK hospitals face ‘worst case scenario’ as flu admissions rise

Hospitals across the UK are bracing for a “worst‑case scenario” as flu admissions hit record levels for this time of year, rising 55% in a week, NHS England reported on 11 December.

An average of 2,660 flu patients were in hospital each day for the first week of December, the highest ever for this time of year and up 55% on the previous week.

More than 60,000 more frontline healthcare workers have had their flu vaccinations this year compared to a similar time last year, NHS England reported. Read more
